Dry Ice Blasting

Introducing dry ice blasting; a game-changer in the water-free cleaning industry!

What is it?

Dry Ice Blasting & Cleaning Services

Dry ice blasting is known by several names: dry ice blasting, dry ice cleaning, CO2 blasting, dry ice dusting, and even environmentally sustainable cleaning. Dry ice blasting is an efficient and cost-effective way to clean surfaces and areas that can’t or shouldn’t be saturated with pressurized water.

While it is like other methods of material blasting such as: sand blasting, plastic bead blasting or soda blasting where materials are accelerated in a pressurized air stream to impact a surface to be cleaned. But that’s where the similarity ends.

Instead of using abrasive materials to grind a surface (and potentially damage it), this method uses soft dry ice (Carbon dioxide pellets that are a non-poisonous, solidified gas) accelerated at supersonic speeds, and creates mini-explosions on the surface to lift the undesirable contaminant off the underlying substrate.

Where is Dry Ice Blasting most effective?

Dry ice blasting can be used to clean large machinery where water-based cleaning could be dangerous. It can remove production residue, paints, grease, oils, and weld slag.

Another common use is restoring surfaces from fire and smoke damage. Dry ice blasting has become popular in the insurance industry for its practical and efficient application. It removes the charred wood, soot, and most importantly, mediates against the lingering burnt smells, all without damaging the surface materials any further.

Historical restoration projects benefit greatly from the non-abrasive methods of dry ice blasting. The goal of these projects is to restore the original beauty and uncover the surface of the structure without causing any further damage. However, the ageing surfaces are often too sensitive for the use of any cleaning agents or abrasive cleaning materials. The process is highly recommended for these types of projects for it’s soft nature, and environmental sustainability.

What makes Dry Ice Blasting unique?

Dry ice blasting has many unique benefits over traditional blasting material, including:
A non-abrasive, non-flammable and non-conductive cleaning method
Environmentally responsible and contains no secondary contaminants such as solvents or grit material
Clean and approved for use in the food industry
Allows most items to be cleaned in place without time-consuming disassembly
Can be used without damaging active electrical or mechanical parts or creating fire hazards
